Shielding systems from ElringKlinger

Whether for a commercial vehicle or passenger car, a combustion engine, hybrid unit or an electric drive: as a technology leader and a major manufacturer of shielding parts, ElringKlinger offers bespoke solutions for thermal and acoustic management throughout the vehicle. Our ElroShield™, ElroSafe™, ElroCoustic™, and ElroActive™ systems master all challenges and therefore help to save fuel and reduce emissions and noise for improved comfort, safety, and environmental protection.

Thermal and acoustic management in modern vehicles is complex. Tightly packed assemblies and engine encapsulation impose rigorous demands on the shielding technology used. High temperatures prevail in the engine compartment, the underbody area, and the exhaust system due to minimal cooling air flows, catalytic converter technology, and turbochargers. There are numerous temperature-sensitive components here that need to be protected from heat. At the same, high temperatures are needed in certain areas for optimum exhaust gas aftertreatment and for shorter cold-starting phases, for instance. The thermal protection function can be supplemented by acoustic, electromagnetic, and aerodynamic functions as well as safety aspects.

ElroShield™ M, S, and D – our all-rounders
The ElroShield™ M design is suitable for a wide variety of applications up to an operating temperature of 1,100 °C. Additional components such as seals or connecting elements can also be integrated. The single-layer ElroShield™ S variant is used primarily when low thermal shielding is required and for low-temperature applications such as in the vehicle underbody.
ElroShield™ D comes into its own in the case of exacting demands with regard to thermal and acoustic management and in areas in which system temperatures have to be kept constant. A metallic substrate layer in combination with a silicate nonwoven enables direct contact with the surface of the component to be protected.

ElroSafe™: maximum safety for battery bases
The underbody protection for battery systems has to reliably withstand road impact loads and offer outstanding thermal and acoustic insulation. Manufactured from thermoplastic composite fiber materials, ElroSafe™ offers crucial advantages in this regard in comparison with conventional aluminum battery bases. The potential of this material system can also be exploited for other lightweight design applications such as bulkheads or rear bumper brackets.

ElroCoustic™ keeps things quiet
Light, space-saving, multi-functional ElroCoustic™ shielding parts can be integrated perfectly into vehicle concepts and thus contribute to reducing traffic and vehicle noise. The main application areas are underbody protection and engine compartment encapsulation as well as rear diffusers and all types of covers.

ElroActive™ for optimized exhaust performance
As an active system, ElroActive™ is fitted with heating elements that allow the required operating temperatures for exhaust gas aftertreatment components to be controlled precisely. It can be used flexibly anywhere in the exhaust system through to the cold end. Application options also exist for battery systems.
