Modern sealing systems have to be able to meet a number of challenges. ElringKlinger supplies highly efficient, tailor-made products designed for a wide range of sealing applications relating to engines, transmissions, exhaust systems and auxiliary aggregates. The material and design of each solution is always matched precisely to the specific tasks and requirements.
What is more, additional elements can be incorporated into ElringKlinger specialty gaskets where needed, e.g. heat shields, filters, sensors and pre-assembly components. Our pedigree of excellence is based on 135 years of hands-on knowledge in the field of gasket engineering.
MetalosealTM sealing system
MetalosealTM is an effective sealing system that incorporates coated and uncoated metallic carrier materials.
Given the increasingly strict emission standards put in place around the globe, car makers and automotive suppliers have been focusing on engine downsizing and exhaust gas purification systems. MetalosealTM exhaust gaskets have been designed to operate under extreme thermo-mechanical conditions. They perform sealing and durability functions even when exposed to temperatures in excess of 1000°C – for maximum reliability.
The MetalosealTM sealing system is also available in the form of metal ring gaskets. Metal ring gaskets provide a reliable seal under the highest mechanical and thermal loads, while also requiring minimal space.
A silicone coating can be applied to the metal ring gaskets in order to meet the exacting leakage standards for engine cold starts.

Both ElringKlinger sealing systems – whether with or without metallic carrier material – combine the benefits of superior functional reliability and efficiency.
Elastomer sealing systems can be used for practically all sealing joints found in an engine. To an increasing extent, modern engines are being fitted with components and attachments made of plastic, the aim being to reduce weight and costs.
We will identify the best possible elastomer sealing design for the specific application in question. A pressure-boundary flanged connection has to be created for elastomer sealing systems in the case of load-carrying joints, e.g. by means of a groove in the component. Precisely matched profile geometries ensure maximum functionality at very low sealing pressures.
The metal-elastomer sealing system used for the purpose of sealing highly stressed components consists of a metallic carrier material to which vulcanized elastomer profiles have been added. It is particularly suited to applications with load-carrying joints. Thanks to state-of-the-art injection molding methods, various elastomer materials can be bonded to a metal or plastic carrier.
Whether oil pan, cam cover, heat exchanger or timing case gasket, metal-elastomer sealing systems can be used for a wide range of applications.

VolumesoftsealTM flat gaskets offer the benefits of exceptional media resistance, dimensional stability and reliability. Due to the unique properties associated with graphite and mica, in combination with metallic carrier materials, this sealing system is the perfect choice for a range of applications.
Mica- and graphite-based VolumesoftsealTM rings combine the benefits of high-performance functionality with temperature resistance. Volume sealing rings belonging to the VolumesoftsealTM sealing system are installed in designs with pressure boundary flanged connections or similar. In this context, all conceivable flange variants are possible, from bolted flanged connections to compact and easy-to-install V-band clamps.

The control plates used for the purpose of sealing the control unit of automatic and dual-clutch transmissions have to withstand high hydraulic pressures as well as thermal stresses that can fluctuate significantly. ElringKlinger offers four different sealing systems that are designed to take account of specific component properties and operating parameters: MetalosealTM, MetaloprintTM, metal-soft material and plastic transmission control plates.
Additionally, ElringKlinger control plates can be fitted with integrated functional elements such as valves and filters.

Efficient SCR exhaust aftertreatment systems are an important key to achieving increasingly strict emission standards. The essential components are the injection module, the flange adapter and the mixer. The ElringKlinger-developed CleanNOx system facilitates optimum processing of the injected urea solution.
In low-pressure applications associated with exhaust gas recirculation, sealing systems with integrated filters offer many advantages, e.g. when it comes to meeting strict emission standards. With the help of the integrated filter, ceramic particles or soot particulates that might otherwise damage the turbocharger are removed.
