ElringKlinger do Brasil receives environmental award from Mercedes-Benz

ElringKlinger do Brasil has won the very first environmental award to be presented by Mercedes-Benz Brazil. The ElringKlinger subsidiary got full marks in particular for an innovative recycling method used in the production of thermal shielding components.

ElringKlinger do Brasil is among the selected few to have received the corporate environmental award from Mercedes-Benz Brazil. The prize was presented in December 2010 as part of the 19th Interaction Mercedes-Benz Award ceremony held in Sao Paulo. From more than sixty companies shortlisted for the environmental award, Mercedes Benz selected its top three based on the criterion of environmentally-friendly production processes and services.

ElringKlinger secured the award in particular for its successful implementation of the environmental "4R" motto: "Rethink, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle". This approach embraces the idea of sustainable action from environmentally aware product planning and the avoidance or reduction of emissions during the manufacturing process to the use of as many recyclable materials as possible.

The selection panel was particularly impressed with the intelligent recycling method applied by ElringKlinger do Brasil in the manufacture of Elrotherm™ heat shields, as a result of which the volume of production waste has been reduced significantly. The discarded cut-outs created during the manufacturing process are recycled into a reusable input material, which can subsequently be used in the production of new thermal shielding components.

ElringKlinger do Brasil is the principal supplier of shielding parts to the Mercedes-Benz commercial vehicles unit in Brazil.

Hans Eckert, General Manager of ElringKlinger do Brasil, accepted the award on behalf of the company and emphasized, "Being selected for the Mercedes-Benz environmental award is a recognition of our efforts to pursue growth in a sustainable manner. We will continue to apply the spirit of "4R" for the purpose of reconciling the commercial success of our company with the interests of the environment and society as a whole."

Since 2009, all our financial publications have been printed on FSC-certified paper.

FSC stands for Forest Stewardship Council, a non-profit making organization that promotes sustainable standards of forestry practice all over the world. The reason: On its own, paper recycling is not enough. Every time the cellulose is reprocessed, the fibers become shorter and the quality diminishes. FSC-certified paper combines recycled material with new fibers from sustainable plantations.
